Mobility level - international classifications
To enable the airline to organise suitable assistance, the degree of mobility should be specified at the time of booking. In this way, the necessary assistance can be organised in good time.
The following international abbreviations help to categorise the level of assistance required:
- WCHC (Wheelchair Cabin Seat): Passenger travelling in their own wheelchair. The wheelchair is required for the entire journey - even on board it is not possible to move around without assistance.
- WCHS (Wheelchair Steps): Climbing stairs is not possible, but short distances on foot are feasible.
- WCHR (Wheelchair Ramp): A wheelchair is only required for longer distances. Climbing stairs independently is possible.
- BLND: For blind or visually impaired travellers.
- DEAF: For deaf, hard of hearing or deaf-mute travellers.
- DEAF-BLND: For travellers with a combined visual and hearing impairment.
- DPNA (Disabled Passenger with Intellectual or Developmental Disability Needing Assistance): For people with cognitive impairments - for example, travellers with dementia who are travelling alone
