Customs
Goods subject to declaration and free goods
Red or green exit
If you have no goods or only undeclared goods in your baggage, use the exit marked green.
For goods or cash (e.g. cash, cheques, gold coins or gold bars) that exceed the allowance - i.e. more than 10,000 euros - the exit marked red is the correct route. These must also be declared in writing.
Declaration of goods on entry
Goods for trade or commercial use must always be declared - regardless of the value of the goods. This also applies to products that are prohibited or subject to restrictions. These include, for example, narcotics, weapons, ammunition and protected animals and plants.
Customs provides detailed information on the restrictions.
Anyone who violates import regulations or fails to declare cash must expect penalties. There is a risk of heavy fines - in serious cases even imprisonment.
Important: Counterfeit products are no small matter either. Even small quantities will be confiscated by customs - criminal proceedings may follow.
Customs checks on departure
There are no regular customs checks when leaving Germany. Nevertheless, the following applies:
Goods that are subject to export restrictions must always be declared. This also applies to cash exceeding 10 thousand euros.
Please note: Customs carry out random checks.
Our tip: If you are unsure whether goods are subject to authorisation, you should contact your nearest main customs office in good time - ideally before you start your trip.
